Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey, Calendar of New Jersey Wills [title varies by volume], Vol. 11, 1806-1809 (Newark, N.J., 1947; rep. Westminster, Md., 2002), softcover, 497 pp, indexed, $36.00, and Vol. 12, 1810-1813 (Newark, N.J., 1949; rep. Westminster, Md., 2008), softcover, 560 pp, indexed, $42.50.
These volumes are later parts of a sub-series of volumes issued by the state to abstract the wills and administrations of the state of New Jersey starting in 1680. Each volume covers the wills proven in the years indicated. The entries are arranged alphabetically by the testator. Each entry provides the date the will was proved, testator’s name, whether testate or intestate, and an abstract of all data that includes all names mentioned. Inventories are also noted only by the total and the names of the appraisers. Intestate cases only have the latter. Each entry ends with the file number and letter that is assigned to the county. Each volume includes an all-name index followed by a place name index. As any researcher can see, these reprints are a valuable source for primary records that should be kept in print. Any New Jersey researcher will want to have the volumes that cover the years their family was in the state.
